How to become a CRNA in Ohio
According to the Ohio State Association of Nurse Anesthetists (OSANA), in Ohio, registered nurses must accomplish several tasks in order to become CRNAs. They must first obtain a bachelor’s degree. This degree is usually in nursing, although some schools will accept bachelor’s degrees in other fields. They must then graduate with a minimum of a master’s degree from a nurse anesthesia program. They must also compete additional hours of clinical work (according to the OSANA the average student nurse anesthetist completes approximately 2,500 clinical hours). Finally, they must then pass a national exam (the National Certification Exam). Once these steps have been completed, a CRNA can practice in the state of Ohio. Each CRNA must go through the re-certification process every two years. In order to be re-certified, CRNAs need to meet several requirements as well as obtain a minimum of 40 continuing education credits.
The practice of administering anesthesia is an advanced nursing specialty and must be performed with the utmost care in order to be effective and safe. The rigorous education, certification, and re-certification process described above helps ensure that CRNAs have the necessary knowledge to keep patients safe and administer anesthesia effectively.
The Duties of CRNA Jobs in Ohio
The specific job duties of CRNAs can differ depending on a variety of factors including what type of facility they work in, what types of patients they see, and what types of procedures they assist with. The general duties of CRNAs, however, are likely quite similar amongst all CRNA jobs. The Ohio State Association of Nurse Anesthetists lists the following as examples of the roles of an individual CRNA:

- Administration of anesthesia
- Maintenance of intra-operative anesthesia

CRNAs working in Ohio make an average of $146,770 per year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
